“The Years of the Shark” is a documentary with extraordinary and previously unpublished material about the “world‘s foremost composer of tango music” – Astor Piazzolla. The Argentine bandoneon player and composer Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) revolutionized the tango. His tango nuevo, with its jazz and classical influences, made him a controversial figure in his own country, as his revolution clashed with tradition.
The release coincides with his 100th birthday on March 11th 2021.
Influenced and admired by the greatest artists of his era such as Arthur Rubinstein, Alberto Ginastera, Jorge Luis Borges, Dizzy Gillespie, Jeanne Moreau, Piazzolla succeeded in taking the tango to new levels. Today international musicians like Chick Corea, Martha Argerich, Yo-Yo Ma, Mick Jagger and Caetano Veloso all play and love his music.
