The music of Leó Weiner (1885-1960) reflects the folk music of his native Hungary as did his contemporaries’ Bartók and Kodály, but with a decidedly more Romantic flavor. In fact, listening to this music, while I was often reminded of these two Hungarian masters, there is also an apparent British influence of other composers for string orchestra - Butterworth, Grainger and Bantock as examples. This Naxos release is volume three of a series of the complete orchestral works by Weiner, knowingly performed by the strings of the Budapest Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Valéria Csányi.
