Verdi: Macbeth (Recordings 1960) [Sung in German]

This audiophile remastered, German-sung, Vienna, Austria production from 1960 of Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth features some highly accomplished and noted singers active in the middle years of the last century. Hans Braun (1912-97) stars in the title role, with Anton Dermota as Macduff and the powerful dramatic soprano Christel Goltz (1912-2008), the dominant Salome of her time and arguably one of the best ever to sing and act that role, as the Lady Macbeth. Argeo Quadri (1911-2004), long associated with opera performance in Vienna, conducts the Vienna Radio Orchestra and Chorus.
