This second volume continues the story of rock ‘n’ roll’s most popular icon in 1956. To smooth his “subversive” image in a conservative America, Elvis Presley turned to other kinds of music and began recording gospel, country music – even Christmas songs – with brio and authenticity. In parallel, he also had his greatest rock hits: All Shook Up, Teddy Bear and Jailhouse Rock. For this set, Bruno Blum has compiled recordings Elvis made in 1956-57, alternated with the original versions of these pieces. The comparison provides a perspective allowing listeners to better understand Presley’s immense contribution to the legend of an America set to conquer the world. P. FReMEAUX
