This album takes a close look at Chanticleer’s most beloved composers and works juxtaposing pieces from Renaissance and Baroque composers (Lassus, Byrd, Morley, Palestrina etc.) with 20th-century American works composed or arranged by Stucky, Bates, Gershwin (Summertime) and members of Chanticleer.

REVIEW:
There’s a real sense of exhilaration here. The group moves from Palestrina to Gershwin, via gospel, Appalachian folk, jazz, and contemporary choral with utter plausibility and apparently equal ease. The performances combine serious technique (and a four-octave range spanned at the upper extremes by some of the best countertenors in the business) with an unfussy directness.
