Originally built for the St. Louis World’s Fair of 1904, the organ now known as the ‘Wanamaker Organ’ was later bought by Philadelphia merchant John Wanamaker who shipped it in railcars to and then installed it in his Philadelphia emporium, adding 18,000 pipes to the 10,000 it already had over the course of two decades. The Centennial Concert program, showing off the power of this truly majestic instrument, consists of works by Alexandre Guilmant, Joseph Jongen and Charles-Marie Widor as played by organist Peter Richard Conte, current Wanamaker Grand Court Organist.
