Balval means “the wind” in Romani, the language of the Roma people commonly known as gypsies. In their language, one phrase is enough to dissolve the imaginary borders that separate the East and the West. Romani is made up of words inherited from India, Persia, Greece, Turkey, and borrowed from Russian, Romanian, French, and English - a reflection of the Roma’s journey from India to Europe.
