In the long series of more than fifty printed works that Telemann presented to the musical public in the course of the half-century from 1715 to 1765; the “Essercizii musici” assume a prominent place: With and in addition to the admittedly quite different “Musique de Table” (“Tafelmusik”) of 1733; they have to be considered the most representative of his instrumental collected works. As a collection of sonatas; however; they are distinguished as much by their unusual scope as well as by their singular and architecturally conceived conception.
