Soundscapes III

The idea for this Soundscapes CD, homage to Benjamin Britten, began in 2013 when Tomasz Skweres and Rainer Stegmann were preparing an evening recital to mark Britten’s 100th birthday. Tomasz wanted to compose a Britten-referencing work for the recital. They also asked others to compose Britten tributes. The resulting four new works, each making reference to Britten in its own way, are presented in these world premiere recordings. The centerpiece of Soundscapes III is Britten’s monumental Nocturnal After John Dowland, Op. 70, composed in 1963 at the suggestion of guitarist Julian Bream.
