Sibelius: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2

Leopold Anthony Stokowski was an English conductor of Polish descent. One of the leading conductors of the early and mid-20th century, he is best known for his long association with the Philadelphia Orchestra. He was especially noted for obtaining a characteristically sumptuous sound from the orchestras he directed. He brings his own vision of Nordic grandeur to the first two of the Finnish master’s symphonies in these recordings.
