A humble and reverent man, Belgian composer Joseph Ryelandt (1870-1965) wrote of his compositions in 1940: ‘if it is God’s will that my works be propagated some day in the future, then it will happen’.; This album is the first release in a series that explores Ryelandt’s chamber compositions for strings and piano.; Although this repertoire is widely unknown, it is thoroughly attractive. Reminiscent of the music of Debussy, d’Indy and Fauré, his pieces serve as evidence of a talent well used.; De la Haye Ensemble performs this music skillfully.
