This double-disc release of the complete works for harpsichord solo by Jean-Philippe Rameau, timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the composer’s death, features Norwegian harpsichordist Ketil Haugsand. By the time of his death, his achievements as a composer of operatic works had eclipsed whatever fame he had achieved as a keyboard composer. Taken as a whole, however, his harpsichord compositions contain an incredible array of appealing melodies, clever formal devices and subtle references that make him one of the most extraordinary French keyboard composers of all time.
