This Ricercar CD affords an intimate encounter between Lutheran music and the Italian Baroque style. Among the hallmarks of this style is the interdependent relationship of the solo vocal line with the accompanying instruments, who frequently enter into a dialog with it but also are given instrumental sections of their own. The music is by six composers: Bernhard, Buxtehude, Hammerschmidt, Monteverdi, Pfleger and Rosenmüller. Julie Roset is graced with a wonderfully felicitous soprano voice for this exquisite program of delicate, often somber but always engaging music.
