The Annunciata Musical Academy was born in 2009 with the idea to create a stable orchestra, located within the historic building of the former nunnery monastery of the Annunciata in Abbiategrasso. The creator of this idea is Valeriano Puricelli. The project offers a musical ensemble consisting of young musicians with an ample musical repertoire proposed at events in Abbiategrasso and other cities interested in the musical discourse and the Annunciata Academy itself. The involvement of young musicians emphasizes the will to form an ensemble where the teaching of baroque performance is a priority. After being selected the young musicians begin to work with tutors, who thanks to their extensive experience set them on the correct path towards performance routine. The Annunciata Academy then performs public concerts, giving the musicians a chance to play live for an audience. Since 2009, the Annunciata has held over 70 concerts, some of which abroad in occasion of prestigious musical events. Some locations include Elswangen, Germany and in the festival Ceresio Estate in Lugano, Switzerland. Beside the Academy's own hometown, past concert locations in Italy include the Sant'Antonio Abate church in Milan, the San Fedele Auditorium in Milan, the Gaudete festival in Val Sesia, and the classic festival Terre di Scansano. Recently the Academy has recorded a playful work of D. Cimarosa in Canneto sull'Oglio, near the city of Mantova. The wind section directors and conductors are Riccardo Doni and Sergio Delmastro. Violin and Violoncello tutoring is overseen by Carlo Lazzaroni and Marcello Scandello respectively. From the start the young musicians of the Academy were offered master-classes, with famous violinist Enrico Onofri and celebrated soprano singer Roberta Invernizzi among others. The Annunciata was awarded a first place "Italian Heritage Award" in the category of cultural heritage preservation for the CD "La Milano dei Borromeo". This work was built upon a yet unpublished score, carefully and meticulously reconstructed piece by piece.
