Very late in his career Sandor Vegh came together with the orchestra renowned for its supremely Viennese interpretations of Mozart: the Vienna Philharmonic. It was 1991 that Vegh and the orchestra worked together in the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and this led to a memorable concert during the Mozart Week, on January 30, 1992in the Festspielhaus in Salzburg. Sandor Vegh conducted the Symphony in G minor, K. 550 and the Symphony in E flat major, K. 543. The recording of this legendary interpretation can be heard on this album. In cooperation with the Mozarteum Foundation, belvedere edition is releasing highlights of the Mozart Week Festival Salzburg from its beginnings in 1956 until today. Contemporary history and the history of interpretation become audible on carefully restored sound documents in excellent sound quality. Moreover, the edition will also comprise current recordings from the Mozart Week and concerts throughout the season, using the most up to date recording and production techniques. The Mozart Week Festival has taken place annually in Salzburg since 1956. Renowned artists have made their mark on this festival since its beginnings and created a distinct impact as regards interpretation, artistic analysis and musical performance. Concerts from the Mozart Week have been recorded on radio and television since the inauguration of the festival. The treasures in the archives of these concert recordings are now available through belvedere edition.
