This recording is the first by Trio Dali with Jack Liebeck, the ensemble’s new violinist. • After a Ravel program in 2009 followed by a disc devoted to Schubert, the Trio turns its talents to Felix Mendelssohn’s two trios, the popular op. 49 in D minor (1839), a work Robert Schumann dubbed ‘the modern masterpiece in the trio genre’, the tragedy-to-triumph characterized C minor op. 66, and two Bach transcriptions. • The Trio Dali has thus chosen to contrast Mendelssohn’s two trios with works by a composer for whose rediscovery Mendelssohn was largely responsible in his time: J.S. Bach.
