La Bella Mandorla: Madrigals from the Codex Squarcialupi

The Squarcialupi Codex is an extensive, lavishly decorated manuscript of the Italian Trecento. Compiled around 1410, it obtained it's name from the organist who owned it. The manuscript contains works by 12 known composers - including Francesco Landini, Giovanni da Cascia, Jacopo da Bologna, and Lorenzo da Firenze - and presents them in chronological order. The music has close ties to the literature of it's time.
