Zoltan Kodaly’s later years were dominated by choral works, but his early reputation was founded on chamber works, including the two masterpieces heard on this recording- the Duo for Violin and Cello, Op. 7, and the Sonata for Solo Cello, Op. 8. These works are paired with Ligeti’s Sonata for Solo Cello, a succinct but pivotal work in the composer’s development.
