Best remembered for his organ works, or more specifically, for the harmonium, Sigfried Karg‐Elert (1877‐1933) combined rich, late- romantic harmonies with a dense, chromatic and complex use of counterpoint. This set’s music, his complete works for flute solo and flute and piano, exhibits a quite different and perhaps more appealing side of this composer. His 30 Caprices for solo flute are of interest to more than just professional flute players, while the masterful Flute Sonata and other flute/piano works reveal an original mind and a fine ear for the flute’s lyrical and seductive qualities.
