Handel’s “Messiah”, first performed in Dublin in April 1742, became his most frequently performed work. The English oratorio attained a cult status, even while Handel was still living.; The many exceptional choruses in this monumental work are some of the most well known, beloved pieces in all of choral music. This recording contains all of the choruses conducted by Frieder Bernius.; Frieder Bernius founded the Kammerchor Stuttgart while he was a student, and the Barockorchester Stuttgart in 1985. As the MDR Figaro said of the ensembles’ performances, they breathe “liveliness and new energy” into the work (April 2009).
