It might be unusual to find classical music imbibing the spirit of Irish folk music, and even more unusual for that ‘Irish’ music to actually be by an Italian.Born in southern Italy in 1855, Michele Esposito made Ireland his home for nearly a half-century from 1882.This new release presents his complete output for violin and piano, works of deep emotional content that demand high levels of virtuosity, and in which he freely makes use of folk melodies and generally expresses the atmosphere of the Irish landscape and folklore.Played by violinist Carmelo Andriani and pianist Vincenzo Maltempo.
