These three works for chamber ensemble are among Antonín Dvořák’s most valued creations. His youthful String Quintet Op. 77 is a “symphony for strings” with a modern feel, its novel scoring giving it a visionary and highly romantic allure. The inclusion of a harmonium lends the Bagatelles Op. 47 a quite unique magic. Despite their rather modest technical demands, the Bagatelles and particularly the Terzetto, Op. 74, the writing of which Dvořák stated gave him much enjoyment, are also singular masterpieces. The Scharoun Ensemble Berlin is made up of current members of the Berlin Philharmonic.
