Playing many of his own arrangements, Barry Douglas, best-known for his celebrated performances of works central to the classical piano repertoire, here explores the melodies of his native Ireland, from ancient folk tunes passed down through the ages to pieces by contemporary songwriters. Many of the arrangements are based on transcriptions of folksongs and folk tunes that offer a glimpse of Celtic cultures past. Joining Mr. Douglas is the young flautist Eimear McGeown, a renowned and passionate exponent of the traditional Irish flute she is heard to play on this recording.
