Of Giuseppe Maria Cambini nothing certain is known until his early 1770s move to Paris where his Op.1 was published shortly after arriving. Within the next 35 years upwards of 600 instrumental works had appeared under his name! His well-crafted melodies and good-humored charm are well worth investigating, as he was the galant Parisian composer par excellence. In language graceful, natural and simple, his 6 Flute Quartets exude strong stylistic elegance, touching inspiration and pre-Romantic feeling.
