Beethoven Explored, Vol. 6: The Chamber Eroica

This very important recording marks the FIRST TIME the original piano quartet version of Beethoven’s Third Symphony, “Eroica”, has been recorded, and should not be confused with the arrangement by Ferdinand Ries published some 50-odd years after the work’s orchestral premiere. This anonymous arrangement was made at Beethoven's insistence (though he had requested a string quintet) and published in 1807. The writing is far superior to that of the later Ries version, despite some similarities. This release marks the sixth volume in Métier’s “Beethoven Explored” series.
