Beethoven's piano sonatas are often referred to as the New Testament of keyboard literature - works which, through their many technical innovations, helped increase music's capacity for self-expression. In his first recording of the cycle, the young Daniel Barenboim combines clarity of tone with freshness of thought to deliver superlative readings. The Piano Concertos recorded almost twenty years later with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra are another milestone of the discography.
