The first Musica Bohemica Supraphon recording, from 1979, featured several folk texts to which artistic director Jaroslav Krček composed music of much sensitivity. The follow up album included traditional melodies in Krček’s arrangements, his singular signature and colorful instrumentation again apparent. Pieces selected from these two early recordings, some seeing their first CD release, make up the contents of this collection issued in celebration of the ensemble’s 40th anniversary. Having enchanted generations of listeners, the songs now come across in full, restored beauty.
