One of Bach’s final compositions before his death, the Mass in B Minor BWV 232 is a setting of the entire Ordinary of the Latin Mass. The work was completed in the year before his death, 1749. Bach’s motivations for composing the mass remains a mystery among musicologists, as Protestant composers did not typically write a Missa tota. This live performance comes from Wien, 1950, and is conducted by legendary conductor Herbert von Karajan.
