On this second CD of Ditta Rohmann’s series presenting Bach’s six cello suites, the dramaturgy of the musical process suggested the following order sequence – No. 4 in E flat major – No. 2 in D minor – No. 6 in D major. The opening item, the Suite in E flat major with its festive character, strenuously complex and delicate musical material with regard to cello technique is then followed by the shorter-winded, more philosophic Suite in D minor, representing a sort of standstill and musing before the last Suite in D major, the most complex of the six suites in terms of intricacy and size.
