The American Bandmasters Association Commemorative Recording

William F. Santelmann (1902-84), USMC (Ret.), was 21st Leader/Director of the USMB, serving from 1940-55. His musical training began at age six with his father, then-Director of the Marine Band Captain William H. Santelmann. He was accepted into the Marine Band in 1923. Following the 1940 retirement of Capt. Taylor Branson, he became Director of the band, and for the next fifteen years served in that role - a period of time that included the very trying times of WWII.
