Satie: Slow Music

Erik Satie rebelled strongly against the musical climate in which he grew up – richly furnished, intense music full of emotional layering – instead doing away with its perceived pretentiousness and drawing rather on irony. + Such a stance ultimately resulted in ethereal-sounding compositions that are slow and solemn by nature. + On ‘Slow Music’, pianist Jeroen van Veen, exploiting the concept of time in relation to the composer’s works, stretches their durations to the max, and then goes the extra mile: from slower to slowest, giving each note and each chord the chance to be absorbed fully.
