When Mozart's famous opera, The Magic Flute, was introduced in Paris, it found itself in need of heavy revision, not only to fit the standing company that was to perform it, but also to fit local requirements, which meant the addition of recitative and ballet in addition to the translation of the libretto into French. The result of these heavy adaptations, the work of arranger Ludwig Wenzel Lachnith and librettist Étienne Morel de Chédeville, is a pasticcio entitled Les Mystères d’Isis, featuring music not only from The Magic Flute but also from several of Mozart's other operas. Le Concert Spirituel and the Flemish Radio Choir bring this fascinating adaptation of Mozart's work to life on the Glossa label.
